Thanks to its geographical position, Valtellina is a 'unicum' in the Italian wine-growing world: an island in the Alps with mountain ranges that touch four thousand metres, which means that the climate does not follow the climatic characteristics of the rest of Italy. As happened in the past in 2002, Valtellina proves to take advantage of extreme climatic situations thanks to 'Chiavennasca', a Nebbiolo 'trained' to live in the mountains and therefore able to offer sensational responses in cold and difficult vintages. The Nino Negri winery has been producing Sfursat since 1956 with grape drying. The 5 Stelle is its most prestigious Sfursat and has been produced since 1983 only in favourable vintages from Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) grapes, the most extensive terraced vineyard in Italy.
