BenRiach a cornerstone of Scottish culture, boasting an origin dating back to 1898 and vast success throughout the international scene, remained half-known to the public for many years, partly due to the fact that it remained closed for a good 65 years (1900 to 1965). Re-opened by Glenlivet Ltd, it owes thanks to Billy Walker, with a very long past in the distilleries of Chivas Bros and Burb Stewart, he was the architect of the relaunch of the brand. About 70% of the production is bottled as single malts, while the rest ends up almost entirely in the blends of the former owner, Chivas. BenRiach is very active and brings many bottlings to the market, including various finishing and excellent single casks that are very popular among enthusiasts. The distillery has put the malting floor back into operation, however there is currently no data on the use and percentage of malt produced. They are Scotches with a unique and unmistakable style. The Benriach distillery is truly unique, as its chimneys already suggest: it produces products with refined aromas and flavours, always looking to the future, having centuries of experience behind it.

Description

The Twelve is a Scotch Single Malt from Speyside that continues as traditionally the expression of Benriach matured mainly in ex-Sherry casks, although in this new evolution it is enriched with an additional interesting maturation cask, that of Port. This choice has intensified the notes of baked fruit, honey, maple and cocoa. The Twelve consists exclusively of non-peated single malts aged for at least twelve years in ex-Sherry, ex-Bourbon and Port casks.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Intense amber colour. Rich aromatic profile, acacia honey, cocoa, cooked citrus, roasted hazelnut, coffee and sultanas, spices. The taste is intense, persistent and very smooth, with sweet aromas of sultanas and dried fruit.

Storage time:

over 20 years

Vinification

Benriach draws its water from a mineral-rich aquifer that flows beneath the distillery. The long production tradition allows the three styles of whisky to be explored: classic (unsmoked), smoked (with Highland peat) and triple distilled.
