The Grattamacco winery was founded in 1977 and is part of the Colle Massari group. Situated on the summit of a hill overlooking the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri at 100-200 metres above sea level, the winery is located in a wine-growing area particularly suited to the production of great red wines. Its position allows the winery to enjoy a dry, mild climate, with considerable temperature excursions, especially in late summer. The winery covers an area of 80 hectares, 29 ha of which are planted with vines and 4 ha with olive groves. The remaining area is covered by woods and is bordered by a vast wooded area of about 1600 hectares. The hilly vineyards with average slopes of 8% are trained to spurred cordon, Guyot and Alberello systems, with an average yield of 60-70 quintals per hectare. The average age of the vines is about 25 years.
