Lovingly defined by Veronelli as "the farmer", Livio Felluga was a courageous, visionary, enlightened man, always with an eye towards his family, his land, his hills. It is easy to understand how the history of Livio Felluga and of his wine is intertwined with the history of that particular land which surrounds the extreme north-eastern part of the Adriatic Sea, the point of contact between the Mediterranean Sea and Central Europe. It is a history of borders that have changed many times, of empires that have disappeared, of past wars... of people who have stopped here. It is the story of a man who lived through two world wars, first in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then in the young Kingdom of Italy, who lived on the rocky coast of the Istrian peninsula and in the Grado lagoon. Livio Felluga moved to Friuli at the end of the 1930s and settled in the gentle foothills of the Rosazzo hills. His dream of producing wine from the hills was interrupted by the call to the front. As if that was not enough, the return to Italy was not easy for the veterans of the Second World War: physical, political and ethnic boundaries had changed, changed forever, just like the agricultural and social landscape of the hills. The farming population was leaving, further impoverishing the land and abandoning the crops, values and traditions linked to it. Livio Felluga had to undertake a new battle to resurrect the hill, convinced that only the rebirth of quality farming could bring life back to the Friulian countryside. With great courage he started restoring the ancient vineyards of Rosazzo and planting new ones, introducing innovative ideas and methods. A hard work, done with great stubbornness and passion that will lead him over the years to create one of the most beautiful and significant wineries of the Belpaese, acquiring the title of refounder of Friuli's viticultural tradition and reference actor of the Italian enological renaissance.
