In 1833, the entrepreneur and aesthete Louis Roederer, heir to the Maison de Champagne, took the far-sighted decision to enrich the vineyard in order to control all stages of wine-making and created an entirely original style, spirit and taste. In the mid-19th century, with the purchase of vines selected with instinct and eclectic spirit on the lands of the Grands Crus de Champagne, Louis Roederer went against the grain of the customs of the time. While others bought the grapes, Louis Roederer tended the vineyard, deciphered the character of each plot and methodically acquired the best ones. Persuaded that the quintessence of a great wine resides in the earth, a lover of tradition and a forward-looking man, Louis Roederer traces an exceptional destiny for the House that has since borne his name. His successor, Louis Roederer II, is animated by the same patient vision of champagne, the same patrimonial conception of the wine estate, the same resourcefulness. He drew inspiration from his love of books and drawings, which he collected with talent. From the 1870s onwards, Champagne Louis Roederer wines travelled as far as the United States and Russia, to the table of Tsar Alexander II. A man of taste, an inveterate researcher, Louis Roederer created a new champagne for the Emperor and launched a new idea: the first 'cuvée de prestige', born in 1876 under the name 'Cristal'. Its subtlety and elegance have since established the reputation of excellence of the Maison Louis Roederer. In the 1920s, the new heir to the House of Louis Roederer, Léon Olry Roederer, dedicated himself to the creation of a particularly well-balanced wine, whose constant and delicate blend of different vintages is the promise of consistently perfect quality. A magnificent blend that contributes to the rebirth of the Maison Louis Roederer. Always independent, and always run by the family, the Maison Louis Roederer is today directed by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation of the dynasty. With the same patience, an'unwavering loyalty to its creative vocation, Maison Louis Roederer now ships more than three million bottles each year to over a hundred countries around the world.

Description

True to its roots, the Maison is committed to respecting its historical origins: 1/3 Vineyard of "la Rivière", 1/3 Vineyard of "la Montagne" and 1/3 Vineyard of "la Côte". All of Collection's plots, both those belonging to the Louis Roederer estates and those of its long-standing partners, have been redefined in order to preserve only those most suited to its identity, linked to the heart of the Champagne terroir. This 246th assemblage from the Maison Louis Roederer restores the freshness of the vintage, its precision and its tension. In particular, the Chardonnays, present in the blend in unusual proportions, held up well, giving elegant, refined and saline grapes; the Pinot Noirs also captured the light and fresh character of the year, albeit with less power than usual. Collection 246 thus delivers a delicate, iridescent score, reminiscent of the character of some Blanc de Blancs champagnes.

Organoleptic characteristics:

The colour is bright and brilliant, enhanced by a fine and constant effervescence. The bouquet reveals aromas of yellow fruit such as mirabella and nectarine, accompanied by candied citrus reminiscent of lemon. Toasted and boisée notes, veiled with vanilla, intertwine with subtle reductive nuances evoking shells, along with roasted and iodised notes. The attack is fruity, with aromas of peach and floral nuances of pollen. The light, delicate texture reveals soft, creamy bubbles. The centre of the mouth develops saline and chalky sensations, with an oily, powdery texture. The long, graceful finish reveals smoky and toasty notes from the perpetual reserve, giving an impression of freshness, energy and liveliness.
