The Marquis Antonio de Viti de Marco built, at the end of the nineteenth century, the Masseria a Li Veli: in this ancient place the great Lecce economist decided to create what would later become the lighthouse and the exemplary model of viticultural development of the whole Apulia. However, in the following decades, the Masseria slowly saw the strength of that great dream fade away. But it was at the end of the twentieth century, in 1999, that a family arrived from Tuscany: the Falvo family, which in Montepulciano, in forty years, had contributed to writing one of the most beautiful pages of Vino Nobile and Vin Santo. This family fell in love with the dream of the great economist. And decided to buy and refound the Masseria, to dream again that ancient, great Dream of Marquis Antonio De Viti de Marco. In 1999, about a century after the foundation of Masseria Li Veli, a group of investors, led by the historic Tuscan winery Avignonesi, protagonist since the early 80's of the great enhancement of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Vin Santo, bought and refounded Masseria Li Veli with the will to give life to a new project of great quality in Apulia, a region with ancient and noble wine traditions and great potential in the production of excellence. The project went on in alternating phases and remained for some years in a state of limbo, until 2008, when the winery was entirely bought by brothers Edoardo and Alfredo Falvo, who started an ambitious new project of business restructuring and repositioning of the brand. In few years vineyards owned, bottles produced and markets increased considerably and Masseria Li Veli became one of the main wineries in Puglia in terms of quality of products and brand awareness. Brothers Edoardo and Alfredo still personally manage the activities of the winery, with the collaboration of their cousin Alessandro who joined the winery in 2018.

Description

Susumaniello is a red berried grape native to Apulia region, mainly cultivated in Salento area, in the province of Brindisi.
It owes its curious name to the fact that the vine, especially in its first decade of life, is very productive, so much so that it loads itself almost disproportionately with bunches of grapes, just like a "donkey".

Organoleptic characteristics:

Ruby red color with violet hues; on the nose it has aromas of red berried fruit such as raspberry, morello cherry and cassis followed by licorice, rhubarb and leather. In mouth is smooth and has good fatness, it is elegant and balanced with fully integrated tannins. The finish is long with a touch of acidity for a sensation of great freshness.

Storage time:

4-5 years
