Winery
Cantina Tramin, the home of Gewürztraminer, was founded in 1898 by Christian Schrott, the parish priest of Tramin and member of the Austrian Parliament, as a small project with just a few families, in order to guarantee the livelihood and future of the mountain winegrowers. Thanks to the strength of this union, Cantina Tramin has become over time one of the most successful cooperatives in the region and an example recognized worldwide.
Today we are 160 families working a total of about 260 hectares with the pride of those who know that each bottle contains a compendium of our philosophy of life and work: rigor, dedication, trust and creativity.
In 1971 Cantina Tramin merged with the historic Cantina Sociale of Egna, founded in 1893. A union that combines in a single cooperative reality the heritage of traditions and vineyards, including the prestigious lands in Mazzon and Glen dedicated to Pinot Noir. With the arrival in the winery of our enologist Willi Stürz, in the 1990's the inversion of the trend towards quality was consolidated and the project of the Selezione wines was started, which today includes Nussbaumer, Terminum, Unterebner, Stoan, Freisinger, Maglen, Urban and Loam: the highest expression of our enological savoir-faire and the result of a selection of our most valued vineyards. From now on, the whole production will be oriented towards excellence. In 2010 the renovation of our headquarter was completed, a project designed by architect Werner Tscholl, a structure-sculpture that became an icon and symbol of Termeno.
In 2018 Cantina Tramin launches Epokale, a wine that takes the limits of Gewürztraminer beyond the imaginable. Our boldness is rewarded by Wine Advocate, which for the first time awards an Italian white wine the 100/100 Parker points. The latest addition to the Tramin winery is Troy, an elegant high-mountain Chardonnay, with which we enrich this world-renowned variety with a unique Alpine interpretation.
