"Quality', 'absolute attention to detail', these are the cornerstones on which the company's philosophy is based. Every choice takes on extreme importance. No shortcuts are allowed at any stage of the production process: this is the only way to obtain the best grapes according to the climatic characteristics of each vintage.
During the harvesting phase, analyses and empirical tests make it possible to accurately select the bunches to be picked. Tasting the grapes makes it possible to best assess the ripeness of the tannins and the balance of the bunches, in order to determine the best time for harvesting and the winemaking technique for the grapes of each plot. The grapes undergo a double selection process: a first sorting table to check quality, then a second check to remove any residual vegetation.
The grapes of each cru ferment separately, as each base wine contributes to the creation of the final blend, by virtue of the specific conditions of the vineyard of origin: combination of soil, climatic exposure and of course type of vine. Only after a year of barrel ageing are the base wines blended in accordance with two main criteria: the expression of elegance inherent in the spirit of Ornellaia and the style of the vintage.
Description
The Vendemmia d'Artista project celebrates the exclusive character of each new vintage of Ornellaia. Every year since the release of Ornellaia 2006 in May 2009, a contemporary artist signs a work of art and a series of limited edition labels, drawing inspiration from a word chosen by the winemaker to describe the character of the new vintage. For the 13th edition of Ornellaia Vendemmia d'Artista, Jan Fabre, the Belgian artist, interprets the character "La Grazia" of Ornellaia 2018, which was chosen to describe the great harmony and elegance that is fully expressed in the nobility of the wines. The bottles are numbered and personally signed by the artist. Collectors from all over the world compete for these bottles, some of which are auctioned off during an annual fundraising event in support of art.
Ornellaia is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, a faithful expression of a unique terroir that has always been in harmony with nature.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Intense ruby red in colour, the nose reveals hints of red fruits, citrus notes, hints of liquorice and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate the wine is enveloping and well-proportioned in all its components: the tannic texture, dense yet silky, fills the palate with elegance and precision
