The history of Umani Ronchi began fifty years ago, in Cupramontana, homeland of Verdicchio Classico, and then explored many other areas of the precious land of the Adriatic Sea. Today Umani Ronchi is the wine company owned by Bianchi-Bernetti family, which since 1957 has been producing with care and craftsmanship, wines of great quality, knowing how to value those grapes which find their natural and best expression in the lands of Marche and Abruzzo: Verdicchio and Montepulciano.
From Serra dei Conti, in the Marches region, to Roseto degli Abruzzi, the winery has a surface of 210 hectares of vineyards all distributed along the Adriatic coast, between the hills and the sea: 185 km of rows and 10 vineyards, each one with its own vocation and terroir. Numbers that tell about a continuous, almost spasmodic, research about the "best" land and the most evolved agronomic and enological techniques. From the 1970's to today, the winery has doubled the number of hectares owned and has renewed the 85% of old vines. It has invested on Verdicchio and Rosso Conero, it has recovered and valorised grapes such as Pecorino and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, always and however setting high quality enological objectives.
Umani Ronchi winery is guided by a strong ethical approach, and respects the environment having great consideration for the territory and biodiversity. An approach which becomes immediately concrete when talking about precision viticulture, management of machines for vineyard treatments and organic manuring. A sustainable attitude which also guides the choice of materials: the light glass of the bottle determines a lower impact on CO2 emissions, whereas the synthetic stoppers produced from sugar cane, are 100% recyclable. Then there is the photovoltaic system for the production of energy. Everything expresses a sustainable way of thinking and acting.
Description
Plenio is a Verdicchio Riserva from the Umani Ronchi winery, a type stipulated by the production regulations, which impose a minimum aging period of 18 months, of which at least 6 are spent in the bottle. It is a great elegant and refined white wine with unmistakable aromas and flavors. The name comes from the Latin Plenum and is intended to suggest its characteristics of fullness, complexity, and structure.
Organoleptic characteristics:
The color is intense straw yellow, with golden hues; the bouquet is fresh and penetrating, with hints of ripe fruit, honey, bitter almond and aromatic herbs, with a light balsamic background; typical is the note of anise, a stamp of the original vine. In the mouth has excellent correspondence to the nose: a crisp attack and pleasing smoothness, balanced by alcohol, velvety, rich but having great freshness and salinity. The finish is very persistent with long flavors of apple, plum and almond. Wonderful sapidity in the aftertaste.
After a soft pressing, the first pressing must is rapidly cooled and then statically decanted. Fermentation is done for 60% in steel tanks, at controlled temperature, between 16 and 18°C (61 and 64°F), and lasts 10-15 days. The remaining 40% is fermented in 50 hl. oak casks. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation on a 10-15% of the total mass
