Cellar

The Chave family has been cultivating vineyards in the Rhone for centuries: at the end of the 15th century, a local lord granted them some land, starting a story that was destined to leave its mark on the region. Today, it is Jean-Louis Chave, son of Gérard, who leads the historic estate on the Hermitage hill, carrying on the family tradition with ambition and vision. Among the most significant milestones on his journey is the acquisition of the Clos Florentin in 2009, a vineyard hard hit by phylloxera and brought back to life. Already in the 1990s, he had expanded the vineyard heritage with several plots in Bachasson, in the Saint-Joseph appellation. The estate's philosophy is clear: make the most of each terroir without creating parcellar selections or “super cuvées”. The only exception is the cuvée Cathelin, dedicated to a dear departed friend of the owner, produced only in exceptional vintages and in very limited quantities, no more than 2,000 bottles. Jean-Louis Chave continues to preserve and transmit the style that has made the House famous, while remaining faithful to traditional practices.

Description

This great cuvée is the result of the tireless efforts of Jean-Louis Chave, who wanted to recover the old terraces on the steep slopes of Saint-Joseph. The nose is distinguished by its complexity and remarkable aromatic depth. The characteristic spicy and peppery notes of Syrah, an authentic expression of this terroir, clearly emerge. A wine of great quality, the fruit of dedication, determination and love for wine-growing.

Organoleptic characteristics:

opens with a broad and refined bouquet, where floral hints of violets and roses intertwine with hints of garrigue and liquorice. Nuances of small red and black fruits such as raspberry, blueberry and blackcurrant also emerge on the nose. The palate is striking for its structure and intensity, supported by soft, velvety tannins that enhance the overall elegance.
