The history of Château Rauzan-Sègla, Grand Cru Classé began in the second half of the 17th century when Pierre de Rauzan, one of the pioneers of the oenological revolution in the Médoc as well as a wine merchant and director of Château Latour and Château Margaux, bought the Gassies property, and later some adjoining vineyards.
In its 350-year history the château has changed its name on several occasions: in the era of the French Revolution it adopted that of Château Rauzan-Sègla following the union of the de Rauzan family with the Ségla family; while in the early 20th century the name Rauzan was changed to Rausan by the owners of the time, the Cruse family, so much so that it is possible to find, on vintages prior to 1994, labels on which both the Z and S versions appear. In 1855, when the first classification of crus was created, Château Rauzan-Ségla was included in the Deuxième Grand Cru Classé.
In 1994 the maison CHANEL purchased the property, thus beginning a new chapter for the winery's history. Today the 70 hectares of Château Rauzan-Ségla, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, reflect the geological and pedological diversity of the Margaux appellation.
