For 20 years William Grant nurtured a dream of producing the "best dram in the valley." With the help of his family, he succeeded in realizing this vision. In the summer of 1886, with his seven sons and two daughters by his side, William set out to realize his lifelong ambition. Together they began building the distillery by hand, stone by stone. After just one year of work, the distillery was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, which means Valley of the Deer in Gaelic. William's passion, determination and pioneering spirit continue to drive the distillery today. Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain wholly family-owned and today is the world's most awarded Single Malt Whisky*, a true reflection of our founder's innovative nature, passed down from generation to generation.
