Cellar

The Rocca di Frassinello wine cellar was born from a very simple idea, that of replicating the Castellare di Castellina model of excellence in a new territory, the centre of the Maremma. This is an area incredibly vocated for the cultivation of vines, it is included in the municipalities of Gavorrano and Roccastrada. It was there that the first, and to date only, Italian-French joint venture project for wine production took shape. The agreement between Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, the most famous wine signature of France and of the world, foresaw from the beginning to put together the experience of Castellare in the cultivation and vinification of the main Tuscan vine, the Sangioveto, and that of Lafite on the classic French vines, Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz. Rocca di Frassinello's wines are all blends with the exception of Baffonero - challenger of Masseto in the spirit of the America's Cup, the most famous Italian wine of our friends Marchesi Frescobaldi, owners of Ornellaia - which is 100% merlot. Exactly the opposite of Castellare di Castellina's philosophy where native grape varieties are not blended with international ones. The first official vintage was 2004 with about 130 thousand bottles produced.

Description

Baffonero takes its name from the vineyard of the same name, 100% Merlot, one of the first planted at Rocca di Frassinello, the winery that benefited from being born then as a joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Baron de Rothschild-Lafite, the most famous chateau in the world. The Baffonero vineyard is at the foot of the cellar designed by Renzo Piano, with a perfect exposure. The product is sold in wooden boxes.
