La Sala's estates are part of the property known as Grande Terra Murata, and were part of the possessions of the noble Giandonati family; at the beginning of the 15th century the land passed to the Acciaiuoli family, in 1534 to Grand Duke Alessandro de' Medici and finally to the Corsini family. From 1981 to 2014 the estate was owned by Laura Baronti who, together with oenologist Gabriella Tanin the 1990s and early 2000s, contributed to making La Sala an outstanding Chianti Classico estate. In 2014, Francesco Rossi Ferrini bought La Sala, concluding an important agronomic project that began in 1941 with the ownership of the Torriano, now also a beautiful agritourism, which boasts splendid Sangiovese and Merlot vines and olive groves in the Montefiridolfi area. Today, the estate covers more than 70 hectares, all within the Chianti Classico zone, of which 32 hectares are planted with vines and about 40 hectares are given over to olive groves and woodland. All the vineyards are located between 150 m a.s.l. and 350 m a.s.l. Immediately after purchasing the Sala, Francesco undertook a major modernisation project in the cellar and vineyard, converting the estate to organic farming and beyond. The ultimate goals are sustainability, and achieving product quality while respecting the soil and natural biodiversity.
