The story of the Caprai family began in 1971, when Arnaldo Caprai, already an Umbrian entrepreneur in the textile sector who was awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro for Merit in Agriculture in 2002, bought forty-two hectares in Montefalco, four of which were already planted with vines on the Tenuta Val Di Maggio estate, to realise his dream of running a wine farm. Determined to exploit the enormous potential of the native Sagrantino grape variety, he gradually annexed the best adjacent land to the estate. In 1986, the arrival of his son Marco Caprai to run the estate marked a turning point in the territory's wine history.
Marco's vision led him to initiate collaborations with professionals in the sector and research institutes in both the agronomic and oenological fields.
Thanks to the fruits of this research activity, at the beginning of the 1990s the company's Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG "25 Anni" won over critics all over the world, turning the spotlight on an Italian wine-growing area that until then had been little known.
Since then, Arnaldo Caprai, with its unique wines of elegance, longevity and refinement, has been synonymous with Italian excellence.
Today, they manage 160 hectares of vineyards located in all four cardinal points of the DOCG Montefalco area where, in addition to cultivating the native Umbrian vines Sagrantino and Grechetto, with the same passion, competence and vision, they grow other varieties including typical and international ones, such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, for the production of quality wines.
Description
The name Collepiano is the production area of this wine and refers to the rolling hills near Montefalco, a characteristic municipality in Umbria. The wine tradition in this town is older even than its superb Romanesque churches. Sagrantino is an indigenous grape variety with a unique character and expresses itself at its best in this area.
It is recommended to open 2 hours before serving; serve at 18/20 °C
Organoleptic characteristics:
Intense ruby red colour. Hints of berries, blackberry jam, pepper, clove and vanilla, a balsamic note and a touch of powder, leather and vanilla. On the palate it is otente and at the same time elegant, great tannin that hints at the future.
Storage time:
5-15 years
Vinification
Careful selection of only Sagrantino grapes, which are delicately transported to the winery and softly pressed in order to obtain a must of outstanding quality. This is followed by the vinification phase in which the grape juice, in contact with its skins for 26-28 days, is transformed into wine through the alcoholic fermentation process
