Cellar
Poderi Boscarelli is a small, historic family business producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G. and extra virgin olive oil dop. In the wines of Poderi Boscarelli you can breathe all the passion that the Marchesi De Ferrari Corradi family has for the territory of Montepulciano and its precious fruits. The winery is located in Cervognano, a historic area for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and is surrounded by the estate's vineyards, spread over the rolling hills overlooking the Valdichiana; here the vines take root in soils rich in clay and sand, and also enjoy a particularly favourable temperate microclimate. The winery's range includes nine labels, ranging from Rosso di Montepulciano to Vin Santo and a super Tuscan, but Nobile di Montepulciano, in addition to being the one with the oldest tradition, is certainly ideal for understanding the work and philosophy of the winery.
Description
The 'Vigna del Nocio' is located in the eastern part of the estate and extends over approximately 4 hectares at an altitude between 350 m and 280 m above sea level. Since 1991, special selections of Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile have been made in the vineyard, based both on the pedoclimatic situation and on the different clones of Sangiovese present. An average of around 5000 bottles per year are produced. Each one combines complexity and great ageing potential with the elegance and fragrance of pure Prugnolo Gentile. The careful selection in the vineyard, aimed at maximising the expressiveness of these different soils that offer different harvest times, defines the production of different Cuvées of pure Sangiovese Prugnolo Gentile.
Organoleptic characteristics:
It is ruby red in colour with garnet hues. The nose expresses itself with a complex bouquet, moving over an olfactory texture that ranges from hints of violets, plums, notes of blackberries and blueberries, blending with nuances of sweet spices and aromatic herbs. The palate is full, tannic, balanced and has a long persistence.
Storage time:
2-10 years
Vinification
After destemming and soft crushing, the grapes are fermented in oak vats filled to no more than two thirds of their capacity, using indigenous yeasts. Fermentation lasts about 10 days at controlled temperatures of 27 to 31 degrees. Short pumpovers are carried out in the initial phase and manual punching-down of the cap. Maceration in some cases continues for a further 7 to 10 days after fermentation. The individual Cuvées of Nocio are matured separately in Slavonian or French oak with capacities ranging from 5 to 10 hl.
