Lovingly defined by Veronelli as "the farmer", Livio Felluga was a courageous, visionary, enlightened man, always with an eye towards his family, his land, his hills. It is easy to understand how the history of Livio Felluga and of his wine is intertwined with the history of that particular land which surrounds the extreme north-eastern part of the Adriatic Sea, the point of contact between the Mediterranean Sea and Central Europe. It is a history of borders that have changed many times, of empires that have disappeared, of past wars... of people who have stopped here. It is the story of a man who lived through two world wars, first in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then in the young Kingdom of Italy, who lived on the rocky coast of the Istrian peninsula and in the Grado lagoon. Livio Felluga moved to Friuli at the end of the 1930s and settled in the gentle foothills of the Rosazzo hills. His dream of producing wine from the hills was interrupted by the call to the front. As if that was not enough, the return to Italy was not easy for the veterans of the Second World War: physical, political and ethnic boundaries had changed, changed forever, just like the agricultural and social landscape of the hills. The farming population was leaving, further impoverishing the land and abandoning the crops, values and traditions linked to it. Livio Felluga had to undertake a new battle to resurrect the hill, convinced that only the rebirth of quality farming could bring life back to the Friulian countryside. With great courage he started restoring the ancient vineyards of Rosazzo and planting new ones, introducing innovative ideas and methods. A hard work, done with great stubbornness and passion that will lead him over the years to create one of the most beautiful and significant wineries of the Belpaese, acquiring the title of refounder of Friuli's viticultural tradition and reference actor of the Italian enological renaissance.

Description

Illivio Friuli Colli Orientali è stato creato nel 1998 dai figli di Livio Felluga ed a lui dedicato per il suo ottantacinquesimo compleanno. Questo vino esprime la personalità del “Patriarca”, coniugando forza ed eleganza.

Organoleptic characteristics:

Intense and brilliant straw yellow. The nose is intense and complex, enveloping and creamy, with distinct floral and ripe fruit notes. It opens with scents of lime blossom, wisteria, broom and chamomile which blend with fruity notes of yellow peach, apricot, tangerine and tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango. Aging in small oak barrels gives gentle woody notes of coconut, mace, vanilla bean, brown sugar and sweet spices. Closes with a delicate finish of rosemary and walnut husk. The sip is dense and full-bodied, the softness is balanced by fresh acidity. Aromas of yellow plum, peach and papaya alternate with notes of wildflower honey and white chocolate. Savory and persistent, the finish is creamy and pleasantly mineral.

Storage time:

1-4 years old

Vinification

Delicately destemmed and left to macerate for a short period, it is then softly pressed, and the must thus obtained is clarified through decantation. Fermentation at controlled temperature follows in small oak barrels.
