Terra dei Re rises on the slopes of Mount Vulture, the ancient volcano of Basilicata, near the Monticchio Lakes; it was born in 2000 from an entrepreneurial idea of the Rabasco and Leone families. Several lava flows have enriched the structure of the Vulture soils, and it is on these lands that an ancient vine produces one of the best grapes transformed by human labour into a noble red wine: Aglianico del Vulture, at altitudes varying between 300 and 500 metres. The winery is completely underground at a depth of about 25 metres, with adjoining caves dug into the volcanic rock in which the prestigious Aglianico del Vulture is aged. One of the few areas in the world where it is possible to cultivate every variety of vine. In fact, on the winery's vineyard property we find the Pinot Noir vineyard 'Calata delle Brecce', a vineyard at an altitude of 800 metres that yields excellent results. Terra dei Re was the first winery in the world to obtain Friend of the Earth certification in the wine sector. The Aglianico del Vulture Nocte was the first certified sustainable wine. In viticulture, 'sustainability' can be identified with the preservation of environmental and varietal conditions.
Description
Nocte from harvest night. An exuberant embrace of softness and intensity. In autumn in the northern hemisphere there are very special climatic conditions, during the summer of St Martin's Day, coinciding in time with the Nocte harvest we have very noticeable temperature fluctuations that favour the formation of aromatic precursors, these are substances that will impart aromas to the wine. For several years now, Terre dei Re has been analysing the aromatic differences of grapes harvested at night, and we note a predominance of fruity components. We continue our experiments to ascertain that night harvesting gives more pronounced aromatic notes.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Intense garnet red colour. On the nose we are drawn to intriguing spices, dried roses and violets, undergrowth with moss, cinchona bark and light coffee roast. On the palate it has an excellent fresh glyceric balance with a dense but well polished tannic texture and energetic savoury thrust to guide the long and coherent finely spiced varietal returns.
