The experience of Fattoria Pagano was born in 2001 thanks to the far-sightedness of Antonio Pagano, who had a great idea: to make Falerno del Massico known to the world. Very few people know Falerno del Massico is the descendant of the famous Roman wine Falernum, which was considered among the best red wines ever by emperors and patricians of Rome. However, despite its extraordinary fame in ancient times, with the decadence of the Roman Empire and its subsequent fall, the traces of this mythical wine were lost. The rediscovery of the production area of Mount Massico, began during the 1800's, but only in the last 40 years some producers of the territory decided to recover the great tradition by reintroducing a wine that could recall to memory the famous nectar of the times of ancient Romans. In this way was born the rediscovery of a great terroir and of a wine that today is rightly placed among the best excellences of enology of Campania. Antonio, is one of the pioneers of this project, dictated only by the love for his land. The winery is divided in two different territorial areas: Casertano, and Irpinia. In the Casertano area vineyards are located in two terraces under the town of Casale di Carinola (CE), from which it is possible to enjoy a unique view from which it is possible to see Ischia, Procida and Gaeta Gulf. Vineyards of Aglianico, Piedirosso and Falanghina planted in 2002, 2003 and 2004 are alternated next to the pre-existing ancient vineyards which have been producing local varieties of white and red grapes for over 70 years. The altitude is between 270 m and 300 m above sea level, behind the extinct volcano of Roccamonfina and about 5 km from the sea. The presence of volcanic soil and the closeness to the sea create a geo-climatic balance which is fundamental for the production of wines. The remarkable temperature range between day and night, stimulates the synthesis of olfactory and gustatory precursors, which give wines their essential fingerprint. In Irpinia are cultivated two autochthonous varieties which integrate the range of our products: Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. The areas planted with vines are respectively Tufo and Lapio; here the altitude is between 500 and 600 meters and the soil is characterized by the presence of clay and limestone and boasts a south-west exposure. This area represents the terroir of excellence for the production of the two white wines which have always characterized this wonderful corner of the world.
