Name:
Glenfarclas 10 y.o. with case
Winery
A famous surname, six generations. A family business in the true sense of the word.
150 years later, here's just a little bit of their remarkable story.
John Grant was a well-known cattleman who purchased the Glenfarclas Distillery and Recherlich Farm in 1865. The land was an ideal midway stop between his existing farm in Glenlivet and the cattle market in nearby Elgin.
The distillery was purchased for £511.19 sd. Since'farming was John's priority, he left the distillery to John Smith, who later founded the Cragganmore distillery. However, during this time, the drovers and workers certainly enjoyed the sustenance of a dram of Glenfarclas!
In 1830, John Grant had a son, George, who would go on to take over the farm and distillery in 1889. Sadly, George passed away not long after. Subsequently, the license for the distillery was passed to George's widow, Elsie. She then put her two older sons, John and George, in charge of the'business.
Now in the equally secure hands of the fifth and sixth generations of the family, the Grants remain true to the original vision; creating the finest quality Highland single malt Scotch whisky in the traditional Speyside way.
