Winery
In the beautiful valley of Roseau stands the St Lucia distillery, born in the '50s from the'union of two distilleries,
one in Dennery, linked to the plantation of the Barnard family and one in Roseau of the Geest family. It was in the seat of the latter that the long tradition of St. Lucia began, whose birth also sanctioned the union of the families of the two original distilleries.
The Geests remained partners until 1992 when the Barnards took over the shares and then Angostura Ltd. of Trinidad joined the company in 1997.
Since 2005 at the helm of the St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies there's Clico with Laurie Barnard, the third generation of rum makers.
Description
HMS Royal Oak was at the head of the ships that faced the French in the famous Battle of the Saints. Captained by Thomas Burnett, the Royal Oak was skillfully maneuvered and kept all 74 of her guns on the enemy for the duration of the battle. With 8 men lost and 20 wounded, the Royal Oak played a key role in the early stages of the battle and was an inspiration in creating rum of rare intensity and daring.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Bright amber color, the nose offers notes of plum, raisins, toasted oak and tropical spices. Intense notes of sweet sultanas, tobacco and chocolate, vanilla and oak on the palate. Complex finish with sweet fruit, caramel and spices.
Storage time:
over 20 years
Vinification
fermentation of molasses in open tanks with native yeasts;
distillation in column and discontinuous stills.
