Monleale, Colli Tortonesi, Piedmont. Nestled between Monferrato and l'Olrepò, among the territories most intertwined with the'art of winemaking. A territory renowned and known in the world for its great red wines. Walter Massa, since the '70s at the helm of the family winery, has become a legendary figure, a courageous winemaker, sometimes considered a bit of an anarchist, "the master" who breathed new life into a native white grape variety that was in danger of extinction: the Timorasso, known as Derthona, a wine with great expressiveness and structure. Today the property boasts 23 hectares at an altitude of 300 meters, devoting itself to the typical grape varieties of the area: Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, Timorasso and Moscato Bianco. Alcoholic fermentations occur spontaneously, resting on fine lees with frequent batonnage, no clarification or filtration. T he grapes are raised with scrupulous attention and peasant common sense, limiting treatments to a minimum. Opposed to any form of bureaucracy, Walter Massa is convinced that wine is made in the vineyard and not in the cellar, not with trademarks and documents, which is why he has chosen not to forcibly resort to appellations listed on the label, on the strength of his established reputation as a true artisan of wine
Description
Vigneti Massa Rosso 'Sentieri' is made with only red Barbera grapes from vineyards about 50 years old rooted on hilly soils particularly rich in limestone.Sentieri is the most forthright, precise and sincere interpretation, based on a perfectly balanced conception of freshness and softness. It is dedicated to the "paths among the vineyards of Monleale," the epicenter of the Tortonese Hills of wine, a terroir of great mineral vocation located between Piedmont and Lombardy.
To best appreciate this artisanal wine, we recommend that you let it 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before enjoying it
Organoleptic characteristics:
Sentieri presents to the eye a splendid intense ruby red color with violet hues typical of the grape variety. On the nose it releases fruity memories of cherry and delicate floral hints, there is no lack of spicy echoes, resin, humus and wild violet,a sign of a progression over time potentially all to be discovered. On the palate it is at once juicy, full, gentle, but also dynamic, snappy and refreshing, with soft tannins that lend themselves to a variety of pairings.
Storage time:
1-4 years old
Vinification
In the winery, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation is carried out using only indigenous yeasts and maceration for 10-12 days on the skins without the liquid undergoing filtration.
