Monleale, Colli Tortonesi, Piedmont. Nestled between Monferrato and l'Olrepò, among the territories most intertwined with the'art of winemaking. A territory renowned and known in the world for its great red wines. Walter Massa, since the '70s at the helm of the family winery, has become a legendary figure, a courageous winemaker, sometimes considered a bit of an anarchist, "the master" who breathed new life into a native white grape variety that was in danger of extinction: the Timorasso, known as Derthona, a wine with great expressiveness and structure. Today the property boasts 23 hectares at an altitude of 300 meters, devoting itself to the typical grape varieties of the area: Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, Timorasso and Moscato Bianco. Alcoholic fermentations occur spontaneously, resting on fine lees with frequent batonnage, no clarification or filtration. T he grapes are raised with scrupulous attention and peasant common sense, limiting treatments to a minimum. Opposed to any form of bureaucracy, Walter Massa is convinced that wine is made in the vineyard and not in the cellar, not with trademarks and documents, which is why he has chosen not to forcibly resort to appellations listed on the label, on the strength of his established reputation as a true artisan of wine

Il vino Monleale è un’ottima Barbera ottenuta assemblando uve coltivate in diversi vigneti che vanno dai 15 ai 50 anni di età. Prodotta seguendo i metodi tradizionali e artigianali, è un vino rosso ricco, fragrante, intenso evoluto e complesso. L’idea di vino di Walter è quella di un liquido che racconti fedelmente la sua terra d’origine, ed è per questo che sia in vigna che in cantina gli interventismi umani sono sempre stati limitati allo stretto indispensabile. I vini che ne derivano sono tutti dotati di una potenza espressiva notevole, ognuno dotato di sfumature distintive che rendono le bottiglie di Walter delle vere e proprie esperienze.
Organoleptic characteristics:
Di un rosso rubino che vira verso il granato, si apre al naso con i sentori fruttati della berbera in macerazione, accompagnati da toni mentolati di salvia e timo. Al palato è un vino dalla grande potenza espressiva, il sorso è pieno e vigoroso. Un corpo importante, dove la potenza è al servizio dell’eleganza. La mora in confettura, l'eucalipto e lievi note ferrose chiudono il lungo finale.
In cantina si procede con fermentazione alcolica spontanea e macerazione per 10-12 giorni sulle bucce senza che il liquido subisca filtrazioni. Il Monleale successivamente subisce un passaggio in botti di rovere a cui segue un affinamento in bottiglia.
