The Biondi Santi are credited with starting the tradition of Brunello di Montalcino. It rarely happens that the origins of a wine can be traced back to one man. Brunello di Montalcino, however, owes its existence to the Biondi Santi family, who began vinifying pure Sangiovese in Montalcino in the 1800s. Since 1888, the first vintage of Brunello in history, Biondi-Santi has continued to produce wines renowned for their elegance and longevity. Careful attention to detail and craftsmanship aimed at excellence have accompanied the company throughout its history, making the Brunello produced at Tenuta Greppo one of the most renowned Italian wines of all time.

Description

Brunello di Montalcino from the famous Biondi-Santi winery is the first Brunello in history and has embodied for 150 years the vision that inspired Clemente Santi in the 19th century to create its first expression. It is today, as then, a distinct wine with a complex and refined personality.
The 2017 Brunello was produced from a selection of Sangiovese Grosso from the estate vineyards. This is a surprisingly fragrant wine, displaying an enviable balance between fine-textured tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is savoury, long and enveloping with slight hints of thyme and rosemary.

Organoleptic characteristics:

It has an intense ruby colour. This wine is initially rather timid, gradually revealing the breadth and depth of its aromatic elegance. Red cherry notes stand out among the red berries, accompanied by intriguing hints of white pepper, dried tobacco leaves, liquorice root and citrus peel. In the mouth it is fruity, surprisingly fragrant and displays an enviable balance between fine-textured tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is savoury, long and enveloping with slight hints of thyme and rosemary.
