Biondi Santi have the merit of having started the tradition of Brunello di Montalcino. It rarely happens that the origins of a wine can be traced back to one single man. Brunello di Montalcino, however, owes its existence to the Biondi Santi family, which in the 19th century began making pure Sangiovese wine in Montalcino. Since 1888, the first vintage of Brunello in history, Biondi-Santi has continued to produce wines renowned for their elegance and longevity. Careful attention to detail and craftsmanship aimed at excellence have accompanied the company throughout its history, making the Brunello produced at Tenuta Greppo one of the most renowned Italian wines of all time.
Description
Brunello di Montalcino Biondi-Santi is the first Brunello in history and has embodied for 150 years the vision that inspired Clemente Santi in the 19th century to create its first expression. It is today, as then, a distinct wine with a complex and refined personality. 2011 is a warm and enveloping vintage. The bouquet of this wine is an enchanting encounter of generous fruity and floral notes.
Brunello 2011 was made from the Sangiovese Grosso clone, identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the 1970s. For this Brunello, grapes from vines between 10 and 25 years old were used.
