Durin is a family business that has distant origins, when at the end of the nineteenth century Isidoro Basso decided to cultivate a first plot of land in the Arroscia Valley, an area rich in history, culture and natural landscapes of great beauty. And it was here, in the town of Ortovero, where the Basso family originated, that Isidoro sowed the seeds of what years later would become the Durin winery and which owes its name to him-a man of imposing bulk whom everyone in the town ironically calls "Isidurin" (isidorine)-. As is often the case in these parts, in Liguria as elsewhere, cultivated land is passed down over the years from father to son. The'current winery, located in Ortovero, in the province of Savona, was founded in 1978 by Antonio Basso, the third generation of winemakers in his family. Today the vineyards cover 17 hectares, mostly terraced, in the Arroscia Valley. The main native varieties of western Liguria are cultivated, thanks to a very special mycorclimate, influenced by the hills and the sea, which is only 7 kilometers away. A family that combines tradition and innovation in its production to obtain wines with a unique character.

Description

Durin winery's Pigato is made from grapes of the same name harvested in the estate vineyards of Ortovero and "Ponterotto." Durin's wines are defined as "extreme" because of the conditions in which they are produced. In fact, the company's vineyards are developed in impervious and fragmented areas in various territories of the Arroscia Valley, in western Liguria. And it is precisely in these small plots wrested from the earth thanks to the tenacity and sweat of man, that Durin's wines are born, in a word, "extreme" wines.

Organoleptic characteristics:

An intensely fruity olfactory bouquet, fragrant, persistent, with clear hints of plum, ripe peach and honey on a mineral background, slight hints of yellow flowers, moss and woody resins. On the palate it is dry, soft, broad, delicately warm, savory, full-bodied, with excellent persistence and pleasant bitter "background" reminiscent of peach seed and bitter honey.
