the symbol of Chianti Classico excellence, is located in one of the most beautiful wine-growing areas in the Tuscan region, near Florence. At the head of the company today is Francesco Rossi Ferrini, who bought La Sala in 2014, thus concluding an important agronomic project - the union of the two wineries 'La Sala' and 'Il Torriano' with land historically suited to viticulture.
After purchasing La Sala, Francesco undertook a major modernisation of the cellar and vineyard, converting the winery to organic and sustainable agriculture. The winery's vineyards extend over 32 hectares and lie between 150 and 350 metres above sea level. La Sala del Torriano produces no more than 50,000 bottles per year, the rest is sold in bulk. The winery's portfolio includes four important red wines: Toscana IGT Campo all'Albero, Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Torriano and Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, produced from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes.
Tuscany IGT Campo all'Albero Grapes: 50% merlot, 50% cabernet sauvignon from hand-picked bunches. This excellent wine has an intense ruby, almost garnet colour. The nose shows fine notes of ripe, almost cooked fruit such as plums, black cherries, blueberries and blackberries. Intense bouquet of spices, black pepper, incense, leather and nutmeg envelop the palate with ripe, soft and full-bodied tannins. Chianti Classico DOCG Grapes: 95% sangiovese, 5% merlot The wine has an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. Surprisingly intense and inviting, with a bouquet of ripe red berries, plum, bergamot zest and floral hints of violet and elderflower. In the mouth it is enveloping and fresh, harmoniously bringing back to the palate all those typical Sangiovese scents appreciated on the nose. Intense and easy-drinking at the same time. Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva Grapes: 90% sangiovese, 10% cabernet sauvignon The wine has a deep ruby colour, the nose has a dense and intense texture of floral and spicy aromas, bergamot zest, black pepper, leather, lots of red and black berry fruit and an enveloping finish with balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus. The palate offers the same aromatic complexity, enhancing it with a pleasant minerality and dense, soft, ripe tannins. Perfect in combination with red meats and game. Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, Il Torriano Grapes: 100% hand-picked Sangiovese This great wine has a brilliant ruby colour, rich bouquet on the nose of ripe black cherry, undergrowth, rosehips, plums, bergamot zest and blackberry jam. Intense and soft at the same time, thanks to ripe tannins that delicately envelop the palate. A wine that exalts the characteristics of Sangiovese, with a great structure and ease of drinking. Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Grapes: Trebbiano and Malvasia The wine has a golden yellow colour with amber highlights. The nose presents a rich bouquet of honey, dried fruit and apricot. Sweet and velvety on the palate. Vin Santo della Sala is a sweet meditation wine made from Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes and represents a traditional Chianti production. The artwork on the label was created by Silvano Campeggi, painter and famous poster artist, best known for having painted, among others, the posters for films such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, Singing in the Rain, An American in Paris, West Side Story, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Winners and Losers, Exodus and Breakfast at Tiffany's.
