Veuve Clicquot is one of the world's largest champagne producers (maisons) based in Reims, in the Champagne-Ardenne region. Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron, it played a key role in establishing Champagne as a favorite wine in the circles of Europe's upper middle class and nobility. If Champagne today is what it is, even from a stylistic point of view, much is due to the famous "widow," Veuve Clcquot. One of the best known and most respected women in Champagne who contributed with her hard work, great determination and intuition to make the famous French bubble wine a true symbol of elegance and refinement. She created the first Millesimé Champagne in 1810, invented the table de remuage, the ancestor of modern pupitres, and made the first Champagne Rosé in 1816. But the fortunes of the widow Clcquot are above all tied to those of the Russian empire, from its earliest days the maison's first customer. Today Veuve Clicquot, part of the prestigious LVMH luxury group, has more than 390 vineyards throughout the region, more than 80% of which consist of Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots.
