Veuve Clicquot is one of the world's largest champagne producers (maison) based in Reims, in the Champagne-Ardenne region. Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Muiron, it played a key role in establishing Champagne as a favourite wine in the circles of the European upper middle class and nobility. If Champagne today is what it is, also from a stylistic point of view, much is due to the famous 'widow', Veuve Clcquot. One of the best known and most respected women in Champagne who contributed with her work, great determination and intuition, to making the famous French bubble wine a true symbol of elegance and refinement. She created the first Vintage Champagne in 1810, invented the table de remuage, ancestor of the modern pupitre, and made the first Champagne Rosé in 1816. But the fortunes of the widow Clicquot are above all linked to those of the Russian empire, the maison's first customer from the very beginning. Today, Veuve Clicquot, which is part of the prestigious luxury group LVMH, has more than 390 vineyards throughout the region, more than 80% of which are made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots.
Description
Veuve Clicquot's Brut Saint-Petersbourg comes from the same blend as the ever-pleasing Yellow Label, the company's most iconic Champagne. Pinot Noir in the majority, with a skilful addition of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. The name Cuvèe Saint-Petersbourg is linked to a famous episode in the life of Madame Clicquot who, back in 1814, managed to export bottles of Champagne all the way to Russia, despite the blockade that immobilised trade in Europe, and had them arrive safely at the St Petersburg court. It was a memorable success and this event consecrated the fortune of the maison within the rich Russian nobility. The result is a Champagne of beautiful complexity and elegance.

Vinification
Re-fermentation in Champenoise. The cuvée comes from a selection of grapes from 50-60 plots, with a predominance of Pinot Noir, which gives structure and expressive depth, complemented by Chardonnay and Meunier. At the end of the first fermentation, a percentage of 30-45% of reserve wines is added to the vintage wines, giving the blend maturity and complexity. The second fermentation is carried out in the bottle according to the Champenoise method, with a 4 to 5 year maturation sur lattes.
