The Niedermayr family's Hof Gandberg wine estate stands on the sunny slope above San Michele in Appiano-here around typical South Tyrolean farmstead at 530 m above sea level the grapes destined for the winery and eventually the bottle are born and ripen. Thomas young winemaker following the example of his father Rudy, organic pioneer for over twenty'years and since 2013 has dedicated himself with enormous entusisamo and continuous research to Piwi varieties, i.e. varieties resistant to the main vine diseases, which allow to maintain a natural balance of the'ecosystem, avoid invasive phytosanitary treatments, obtaining healthy wines, great personality with exceptional results. Keeping the'entire production process pristine, from vine to bottle, is a great challenge. For Thomas Niedermayr, the process begins early on. In the soil. In the mother earth itself. Only healthy, fertile soil can grow hardy, thriving plants. Those who tread the estate's soil come across Indian running ducks, chickens, lovingly tended gardens where vegetables and herbs thrive, and immediately notice the wild plants growing among the vines. Description

Attunement with nature and sensitivity in the cultivation and processing of grapes result in precious and harmonious wines with an intense and elegant taste. The PIWI vines, located over 500 m above sea level, are influenced by the Ice Holes and the Gandberg, the imposing mountain behind them. This is precisely why the wines are extremely fresh and spirited. Gandfels comes from a cuvèe of piwi ( Mushroom Resistant) varieties, such as Cabernet Cortis and Cabernet Cantor. A red wine of great eelgance and longevity that will give you emotions reflecting the identity of the terroir and the winemaker. We recommend oxygenation before tasting, by carafe or decanter.

Organoleptic characteristics: 

Bright ruby red color The nose releases notes of sweet spices,cloves and aseguire dark fruits, plum, black currant, juicy cherries. Floral hints of cassis and violet with hints of chocolate. On the sip it has a racy, lively character, refreshing tannin with balsamic notes of bay leaf and juniper.

Vinification 

In part gentle destemming, spontaneous fermentation with the vineyard's indigenous yeasts. After 11 days gently pressed from the skins. One year in neutral oak barrel, one year in steel. Not clarified or filtered.
