Seven friends with a passion for fermentations and an abandoned farmhouse to be recovered with more than seven hectares of land, once used as stables and milking. Thus was born the La Cattiva project, in Sammichele di Bari, natural wines and a great desire to experiment. The vineyards are all owned by Marianna Pastore Bovio, also'part of the project. All the plants are born organic, no treatment except sulfur and copper, totally manual processing and local grape varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, Aleatico, Montepulciano, Aglianico and Trebbiano. No selected yeasts, but carefully monitored spontaneous fermentations. No addition of sulfur and intense controls on temperatures and plant cleanliness. The'idea of "naughty" labels made by different artists also proved to be a great success.

Description

Running is a drinkable, fruity red wine made from Primitivo grapes under carbonic maceration. "Running a business with nature, can never be 100% correctly predicted" is the response Michael said Opie of Masseria La Cattiva received from his former employer during the never-ending 2020 harvest when he confided to him, worried, that he would not be returning to the States on schedule. As if to say, "Dear Opie, you can make all the calculations and plans you want but in this world nature will always come in with its own times and demands. All you can do is go along with it and follow its developments, admiring its unpredictable balances." This is surely one of the greatest truths about making natural wine.

Vinification 

In "Running," freshly harvested red grapes are transferred to a tank for a 15-day whole cluster carbonic maceration. After this period it is pressed and transferred to a steel tank where it ages for 6 months. It is an intriguing wine, fascinating in its nuance and (beware) dangerously easy.
